Are Spiritualist Mediums Trained?

Most spiritualist mediums are attached to, or part of, the SNU (Spiritualists’ National Union). As such, they are part of an organisation which actively promotes knowledge regarding the religion and it’s philosophy and science. Uniting Spiritualists around the world, this organisation supports 340 churches/ societies, all of which share the same seven principles.

These principles - consisting of 1) Fatherhood of God, 2) Brotherhood of Man, 3) the Ministry of Anels and Communion of Spirits, 4) the Soul’s Continuous Existence, 5) Personal Responsibility, 6) Compensation for all good deeds and Retribution for all evil deeds done during one’s life in the hereafter and 7) the Openness of Eternal Progress to every Soul - form a basic ethical and moral framework all members base their lives on.

The SNU has a specially formed Training and Awards Sub-committee, which in turn reports to the National Education Committee’s Accreditation Committee and organises high quality regionald training sessions, as well as coordinating the many volunteer SNU tutors.

Members, in particular mediums, attend these training and assessment sessions with awards being presented to successful candidates for mediumship, public speaking, spiritual healing and spiritual writing, as well as church administration.

Achievable awards range from the Platform Accreditation Sheme, where training involves practical experience and assessments of the speakers/ demonstrators abilities with regard to spirit communication; through a variety of certificates of recognition following educational courses and showing a proven ability to serve Spiritualism; to SNU Diplomas, showing a good, acceptable level of practical ability and knowledge.

Both Certificates and Diplomas are are split into several different areas/ aspects of Spiritualism and candidates choose the aspect they wish to work in/ with, although it is of course possible for one individual to study several subjects. No Spiritualist medium will be allowed to perform public - or private - readings/ sessions without having undergone at least some of this training, thus ensuring that only those truly gifted are “let loose” on the public.

In addition to these various training options, each individual - just like any other medium - obviously spends a lot of time practising and perfecting their gifts/ abilities on a personal level.

It can therefore be safely said that Spiritualist Mediums are certainly trained, possibly more so than any other medium. It is possible that this insistence on training and assessment goes back to the times when many so - called mediums were revealed as frauds, something which dealt a real blow to the Spiritualist movement in earlier days (Houdini, for instance, spent most of his life searching for and pointing out what he referred to as “charlatans”).

Making sure that those working in the name of Spiritualism are genuinely gifted, well trained in all aspects of dealing with spirit communication and able to perform in meetings in a manner which will prove to be of genuine help to those seeking help or comfort is thus of great importance to the movement and has no doubt assisted in the revival and increasing popularity of Spiritualism.

Spiritualist Mediums – What Is Their Value?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Visit this site and find out how to get psychic readings now

Although based on ancient roots, modern American Spiritualism began as late as 1848, with two young sisters, only 11 and 8 years old at the time, claiming to hear rapping noises and consequently working out complex codes and implementing them to contact and communicate with beings from the afterlife. As news spread, many were caught up in the spell. As church attendances fell, spiritualist seances took over in evey town and city across the country. Before long, Spiritualist churches were formed all over the place, usually around a person with psychic abilities - the Spiritualist Mediums.

Spiritualist mediums work based on the concept that the spirit, the true essence of life, lives on even after the body has died. They also firmly believe that the spirits of those who have passed away wish to be involved in the lives of those they have left behind and pass all of their wisdom on to them. Many of them believe that spirits will frequently make use of rapping noises or the levitaton of objects in order to get the attention of the living. Others still claim to have paranatural healing powers

Some may hold meetings - or seances - in smaller groups, while others operate in spiritualist churches, where they “listen for voices” from various planes of existence during services, thus making their services available to all present at the time. Here the guiding spirit will pass on messages from any spirit wishing to contact or advise a living person - as opposed to individual readings, where usually only one spirit is contacted at a time. There are also some who will perform individual readings.

As with other psychic mediums, they attempt to make contact with residents of the spirit world in order to provide comfort to those who have lost a loved one and are trying to cope with their grief, as well as providing advice and answers to specific questions. Obviously a personal session would be much more detailed and specifically suited to a single individual, whereas meetings, especially larger ones such as a whole congretation, will be much more general and although messages may be conveyed to anyone, it is unlikely that they will be as specific.

Often this is done with the medium entering a light trance and allowing a controlling, or guiding, spirit to take over. Any messages that are received are conveyed and the members of the congregation for whom the message was meant will take the message and try to act upon it.

The particular value of spiritualist mediums lies thus in the fact that they not only provide services to people particularly seeking consultation, but are able to convey messages from spirits who may not otherwise have been contacted for a range of people. For instance a spirit may wish to warn a loved one regarding a future outcome or event and is able to do so at a large meeting, whereas he/ she may not have been contacted in a private, individual meeting

Planes Of Existence Other Than Earth

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Many common belief systems operate on the concept that the universe is, at least in part, based on the law of 7. We have seven musical notes in a scale, each vibrating at a different frequency; seven colours of the rainbow and there are also seven planes of existence. These seven planes are divided into 3 ordinal (concrete), one neutral, connecting and 3 cardinal(abstract) planes. Each of the ordinal planes is mirrored by its corresponding cardinal plane.

Each plane operates on a different “frequency”, with the first - physical plane - being of the slowest vibration and thus presenting the densest plane. The medium of this plane is concrete energy. This is the plane we currently reside in – earth - and it is being mirrored in the abstract energy the highest of the cardinal planes, the Buddhaic plane.

The second, astral, plane has concrete emotional energy as its medium and is the place our consciousness is focussed between various lifetimes or at the end of our time within the physical plane. It is possible to visit this plane while having out of body experiences, either intentional while awake or during dreams. The concrete emotion of this plane is in turn mirrored by the abstract emotion of the Messianic plane.

Concrete intellectual energy is the medium within the third - causal - plane of creation. This, the highest of the ordinal planes, is found to be mirrored by the lowest of the cardinal, the Mental plane.

The central fourth – neutral - plane, known as the Akashic plane, interconnects all of the other six planes. Here, the condensed knowledge of and every event occurring within the universe will be recorded as it happens. It appears that all energy and matter have a kind of built in recording device, recording all history in a type of photographic code, while the records themselves are windows showing the past. These records are raw in as much that they show all events as they were originally experienced and it requires a consciousness to assimilate it before it is stored in the Akashic plane.

The Mental plane constitutes the fifth plane. Here, truth is emphasised by abstract intellectual energy. The incarnation of an infinite soul known as Lao-tzu was teaching from this plane.

On the sixth, the Messianic plane, love is emphasised through the medium of abstract emotional energy and Jesus, another incarnation of an infinite soul, would have taught from here.

The seventh, last plane is also the highest, and fastest vibrating plane of existence. It is known to many as the Buddhaic plane. and the medium here is abstract or pure kinetic energy. This plane is experienced just before our awareness is refocussed fully into the Tao, or God. One infinite soul who taught from this high plane was known as the Buddha.

There are, of course, other ways to describe the various planes of existence, but to mention/ explain them all is impossible. I have therefore chosen the one closest to my personal beliefs.

What Are Past Life Readings

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Past life readings involve a reader exploring the past life of a client through a series of visions and the use of various additional tools, such as Tarot cards, astrology or numerology, for instance, as opposed to past life regression, where an individual relives their past through hypnosis or other techniques. The clarity of these visions depends a great deal both on the reader and the person seeking their advice. While some will be clear and easily understood, others may be vague enough to require interpretation.

While Tarot cards are generally regarded as tools of divination, an experienced reader can also use them to answer questions regarding past life experiences, in particular the ones which are having a direct impact on the present.

Numerology, another effective tool in exploring past lives, can teach a person about their skills and talents; many also believe that numerology can identify the reasons for the existence of an individual in this particular lifetime. Others hold the belief that the time of birth of an individual relates directly to the time they have died in another, past life, in particular the one which has the most influence over their current life.

As there is no hypnotism or any other kind of regression involved, the past life reading may be done over the phone, without leaving the comfort and security of your own home. The reader will explore your past and will then discuss his or her findings with you in order to identify their significance to you or your situation.

Everything that happens to us, good or bad, will leave an imprint upon our minds and is likely to be reflected in the manner we react to or handle situations. Sometimes very traumatic events of a past life can result in phobias or even allergic reactions. For example, although I love swimming and have no actual fear of being in or under water in itself, a mere splashing of water into my face would cause an almost panic like reaction.
Having received my past life reading, I found out that a previous life was ended being pushed of a bridge by a weir. It was not the fact that I drowned that remained with me, but the memory of the water splashing off the weir into my face as I was being drawn under by the currents. Knowing this has drastically reduced the panic attacks, although I must admit that I still prefer to keep my face out of the shower, just in case.

The many reasons for individuals seeking past life readings include the feeling that something vital is missing, blocking or holding them back them in their lives, manifesting itself in misfortune. Others have problems letting go of past negative emotions or find themselves repeating negative patterns over and over. Sometimes people have unexplained difficulties regarding their relationships or careers which can not be explained in any other way and need to be examined in relation to possible past life events and experiences.

What Are Angel Readings

Each and every one of has guiding angels, and they accompany us throughout our life’s journey. Messages from these guiding angels, as well as those from deceased loved ones, are sometimes conveyed through the use of angel cards. They will guide us towards and along the correct path and bring comfort in times of need.

Unlike in the use of Tarot, there are no cards with negative meanings in Angel readings. Though powerful and often highly charged with emotion, they will only guide us towards the highest good through all of life’s struggles and mysteries.

There are various ways of performing Angel readings, but there are some things they all have in common: they are done out of the true belief that we are indeed known to the angels and that they are here with us at all times; they are done personally and with the utmost respect, love and care towards both angels and the individual for whom the reading is being done and they are never negative, while at the same time being consistently accurate.

One such example, presented to the individual seeking advice via e-mail, involves the use of 8 cards. The first three, main, cards are drawn by the medium as directed by the angels and are used to pass on messages containing information and guidance from them with regards to the present and pointing towards the future. Each one will be conveyed and interpreted in relation to the question asked.

The fourth card, drawn from the Archangel deck (again guided by angels) will identify the Archangel who is currently with the individual seeking advice, as well as showing the colour of their aura and their purpose. This card will also indicate which type of crystal the individual ought to carry in order to tune in to angelic energy. The medium will explain in which way this particular Archangel may be helpful in the given situation.

For this particular reading, the medium will then draw another card - the fifth for this session - this time from a unique deck of cards, containing extra, short messages specifically chosen for the day the session is being held. Again, the message will be interpreted with the seeker’s situation in mind.

Cards 6 and 7 are then drawn from two additional decks, one indicating numbers which are or will be significant to the seeking individual or their situation and the other identifying relevant influential words and the way in which they may influence the outcome of the particular situation.

The 8th and last card drawn will carry a quote of comfort as directed by the angels in order to bring guidance and/ or reassurance to the individual in their time of need.

Of course there are many ways in which an Angel reading may be performed. As will all methods of divination, methods vary from medium to medium, as do the ways in which readings can be accessed - from e-mail or telephone to live chat or personal consultation.

Ancient Fortune Telling Systems

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Visit this site and find out how to get psychic readings now

Evidence shows that various forms of divination - or fortune telling - were in use (and playing important roles in religion and politics as well as medicine) as far back as 4000 BC. Practised in places like ancient China, Chaldea, Babylonia and Egypt, as well as Greece, Northern Europe Africa and many other places, many of the ancient traditions are, though maybe a little “modernised” still used today.

Tasseography (or tasseomancy), for instance, has its roots way back in Ancient China, as do animal astrology and the - perhaps most the famous of Chinese methods of divinations - I Ching (originally performed by heating a tortoise shell to produce tri- and hexagrams which were then interpreted using pre-determined meanings; today we generally use a series of coin throws to determine them).

The ancient Celts used various ways of divination, including that of casting Ogham sticks (twigs engraved with symbols from a symbolic ancient alphabet used by Druids) and ensuing interpretation. Dream reading and interpretations of omens found within the surrounding nature were other methods used by them, as well as by the Norse people (Teutonic tribes inhabiting the northern parts of Germany, as well as Scandinavian Vikings).

The Norse fortune telling methods also included the use of Runes, sets of stones, each one inscribed with one of the 24 letters of the Futhark alphabet (derived from the initial 6 letters of this runic alphabet). These stones are cast, or drawn to form a spread and are then interpreted according to their pre-set meanings, positions and combinations.

Astrology, the interpretation of celestial bodies and their movements, relationships between them, etc) has also been around for several thousands of years and has been used by Arab, Babylonian, Persian, Hellenistic (Classical Antiquity), Egyptian, Mayan and Hindu, as well as many other, societies. Although many of these ancient traditions are not being used in their original forms any more, they are still consulted by many as a useful resource.

Tarot cards, another popular form of divination, are not quite as ancient as the above mentioned methods, but so far we are able to trace them back as having originated somewhere between the 14th and 15th Century, in either Italy or France.

One of the oldest forms of divination is the African system of bone oracles. Dating as far back as the stone age, it is still being used in many places today. Some of these bone oracles consists of up to 60 tiny bones and diviners have to study a vast interpretative system before being able to interpret the many different combinations.

As we can see, fortune telling has fascinated and occupied mankind throughout history. Many of the original forms have survived the ages and are still in use today, though maybe in slightly altered variations. As people, languages and available technology have evolved over millennia, so have these systems and they ways in which we approach them today. What remains is the result - a most valuable aid in making life’s important decisions.

What Is Astral Projection

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Visit this site and find out how to get psychic readings now

The concept of astral travel, or projection, has been observed for many thousands of years, dating all the way back to ancient China and is today frequently associated with New Age beliefs and systems.

Generally, it can be described as the conscious mind or spirit leaving the body, either to travel to distant places, times or different planes of existence altogether. As a rule, the traveller will remain attached to his or her physical body via an umbilical type silver cord and some people can see this cord while travelling.

Regarded as a so called out of body (OBE or OOBE) experience and accessible either awake, during sleep in vivid dreams or through deep meditations, some individuals have a natural ability to achieve astral projection while others are too afraid to consider leaving their physical body and thus never learn how to do this.

There seems to be no real clarity as to whether every physical body has its own astral counterpart or whether projection is the result of a spirit incarnated into a physical body. A third possibility is that its nature depends on something, as yet undefined, entirely different. It does, however, touch on and raise thoughts regarding life and what happens after the physical death of a person.

As it is, there are two major schools of thought regarding its nature. One, the Phasing Model, believes that it is not really possible to actually leave one’s body and that various planes are in fact merely points along the wide spectrum of consciousness. A person projecting is actually phasing into another section of consciousness and varying locations contained therein, a little like a radio being tuned to another station. This point of view can be regarded as a logical follow up of the philosophy stating that all external reality is in fact a state created internally.

In the Mystical Model, the other school of thought (subject of many different belief systems), it is believed that travel does indeed take place outside and away from the body, by a subtle energy body carrying an individuals consciousness away from their physical body.

Either way, travellers will usually find themselves on the so called astral plane, a region appearing real and being comparable to the “other worlds” often described in ancient traditions. Environments experienced here may be anything from apparently natural to abstract, from beautiful to horrifying and from populated to completely void of any kind of “life”. It is possible to travel from one location or realm to another and frequently our physical laws don’t apply, enabling travellers to fly or float. They may also be able to experience visions relating to the past or even the future, as time seems to be as obsolete here as space itself is. How this is possible, or how anything can occur in sequence without time and space being present is another question altogether and no one has as yet been able to answer this, it does seem, however, to function quite well.

The Difference Between Clairvoyancy & Mediumship

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Visit this site and find out how to get psychic readings now

Mediumship and clairvoyance are frequently interchanged to describe either one of these psychic abilities/ practises, but this is actually not quite correct. Although they are closely related in capacity, they are actually very different in purpose and function in different ways.

Clairvoyance, for instance, refers to an individual’s ability to sense events, people or objects through means other than the five ordinary senses of perception - sight, hearing, touch, smell or taste. It may occur spontaneously or through deliberate concentration, either while in a normal, fully conscious state of mind or during trances induced by meditation, for instance. It is on occasion associated with telepathy, although it is generally derived from a physical external source, as opposed to the use of telepathy, where information is gathered directly from another person’s mind.

The four mainly used types of clairvoyance are X-ray (the ability of looking into enclosed areas, such as rooms, boxes or envelopes), medical (the ability to diagnose diseases by viewing the inner workings of a person’s body), Travel (a change of the perception centre, allowing mental travel to distant places or times) and Platform (this type is concerned with the perception of discarnate spirits). It is perhaps this fourth, Platform type, which frequently causes the term clairvoyance to be applied to mediumship.

Mediumship, in contrast, is concerned with the communication with non-corporeal beings, spirits in general and spirits of the deceased, rather than the gathering of information on present or future events, or living individuals. Again, there are several different types - mental (communication facilitated by telepathy or clairvoyance), trance (the taking over of the individual’s body by a spirit either in a partly conscious or full trance; both mental and trance types are often referred to as channelling) and physical (the ability to produce physical phenomena such as voices, raps and other noises, levitation or the materialisation of objects, resulting from a spirit manipulating the energy which is released by the individual).
A medium may also use other abilities, such as clairsentience (touch), clairaudience (hearing), clairalience (smell) or clairgustance (taste) in order to enable communication with the spirit world. Frequently these abilities have to be practised by the individual, although others claim that they have a natural ability to use one or all of them.

Clairvoyance and mediumship are thus primarily differentiated by the fact that the former is an existing ability used to perceive and gain information concerning past, present and future events or persons from inanimate objects, as well as from living individuals and over long distances, while also being able to perceive things from the afterlife. The latter, meanwhile, is a combination of one or more abilities used to enable - and generally restricted to - communication with the spirits of deceased individuals/ other entities within the spirit world. This communication is the result of a practise which can be learned and honed by practising various abilities. The former ability may also form a part of the practice involved in the performance of the latter.

Is The Afterlife To Be Believed?

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Visit this site and find out how to get psychic readings now

An important concept of many belief systems around the world, the afterlife is certainly an attractive prospect. None of us want to simply accept that the physical death of our bodies will mean the end of our existence. The question whether there really is a life after death has been, and still is, debated hotly whenever the subject is raised.

So should we believe in it or not? The fact is, that many people were brought “back” to life through advanced medical technology after having been declared clinically - and on some occasions believed to be irretrievably - dead. Often these people, rescued from the edge of death, return to life with reports of things or people - usually loved ones who died long before them - they have seen while dead. Others returned and spoke of events about to happen or places to be visited in the future, and were later proven correct when the event or visit foretold actually became reality.

Mediums, enjoying a vastly increasing popularity, give individuals the opportunity to talk to deceased loved ones. Frequently these communications include facts or statements even the individual is unaware of, or a secret piece of information only the deceased and the living individual seeking contact share knowledge of, thus indicating the spirits identity. As a rule, these things couldn’t possibly be known by the medium through any other means than actual contact with a spirit residing in the realm of the afterlife.

Many confess to having experiences involving “ghostly” appearances. A friend of mine, for instance, decided to spend a while in a rented holiday cottage to clear her mind after having some serious personal problems. On moving in, she was unaware that this cottage was supposedly haunted and thus had no expectations of any unexplained happenings.

She awoke in the middle of the night feeling exceptionally cold and experiencing a sensation of severe pressure on her chest. As she turned to try and relieve the pressure, she saw a Lady dressed in Victorian style clothing standing at the end of her bed. Although this Lady didn’t actually do or say anything, the extreme anger and aggression emanating from her so frightened my friend that she moved back home the next morning. (I hasten to add that not all experiences are necessarily frightening or threatening!) On researching the house later, we did find out that a Lady had indeed died of a severe heart attack in that particular room; however, we found nothing to suggest possible causes of this or the anger felt in her presence.

As it stands, I personally am a believer, simply because I have had many experiences, which - in my opinion - confirm that there is more to come after our physical life ends. However, every individual will have to look at various reports, opinions, facts or perhaps personal experiences with an open mind and make their own, personal decision as to whether to believe in the existence of an afterlife or not.

3 Great Reasons To Seek A Divination Reading

Thursday, May 12th, 2011

Visit this site and find out how to get psychic readings now

Many of us have at least one or two of those moments in our lives when we don’t quite know which way to turn or things simply just don’t make sense. As a rule, we are blinded to solutions to various situations/ problems by the feelings or emotions we have regarding or because of them. Asking those close to us for advice will elicit responses again tainted by emotions, while asking a person who is not involved requires informing them about it from our point of view - either option thus failing to give an objective opinion.

Seeking a divination reading, on the other hand, will mean we can talk to someone who is not involved, yet will be able to understand the situation without having to be told in detail - as a rule, a reader will only ask for your name and your specific questions, as well as maybe your date of birth (required, for instance, in the use of astrology or numerology) - thus ensuring objectivity. Although he or she cares and will carefully consider the vulnerability of a person, they are not emotionally involved in the situation and are able to respond without being biased by their emotions.

A reader will use his or her gift of intuition or clairvoyancy and a variety of tools - such as Tarot Cards, Runes, Astrology or Numerology, to name but a few - at their disposal to divine the situation, the underlying reasons and causes of certain developments and the way the way things will be heading in the future. The interpretation of the various answers perceived will then give a clearer view of the situation, often including aspects and perspectives previously overlooked.

The resulting advice will then give the seeker the opportunity to make their decisions or necessary changes from a much more informed, less subjective standpoint. Having received greater clarity and knowing the possible future outcome of a situation, as well as knowing what changes or decisions have to be made to ensure a more positive outcome, it is then up to them what they wish to do with the received information.

To summarise, there are therefore three good reasons to seek a divinatory reading, the first being objectivity - responses and advice will come from an informed, yet emotionally unbiased source. The second reason is that of achieving greater clarity regarding a situation - as it is divined, many new aspects and perspectives will arise, it becomes possible to look at the situation “from the outside in”, as opposed to “from the inside out”, thus enabling to understand reasons and developments much better. The third reason is that out of the greater clarity solutions previously unrecognised will arise. Having now perceived the way a situation is heading and possible ways to improve or change the outcome, the seeker is able to take this information, reflect on it and then make the changes or decisions they need to make in an objective, informed and intelligent manner.
